FEBRUARY – BLACK HISTORY MONTH PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION – NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH “NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim February 2010 as National African American History Month. I call upon public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of February, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fourth.” President BARACK OBAMA COLLEGE/CAREER SCHOLARSHIP FOR SENIORS – The Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA) is seeking qualified applicants for its 2010 National APCA Scholarship Program. Seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.75, of any ethnic or cultural background who are United States Citizens or legal residents are welcome to apply. The application package can be downloaded from http://www.apca-att.org. Completed applications must be submitted in PDF format to APCA@att.com by March 1, 2010 5PM PST. Non-PDF formatted documents will not be accepted. (Bryan) FINANCIAL AID – Now is the time to apply for financial aid. Seniors can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Questions about how to fill out the FAFSA can be directed to Ms. Bryan via email at collegecoun@aol.com. There will be workshops to help students submit the FAFSA in the College Center at 6pm on February 11, 18, and 25. Students can also attend a Cash for College workshop for help (Bryan) FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOPS – Cash for College workshops are available to help students fill out the FAFSA and Cal Grant forms for free. Financial aid experts will be at the following location to assist you and your parents with completing these forms: February 20th at LACC (9am-1pm). (Reynosa) NO CLASS CHANGES!! – We are in the 5th week of the semester. There are no more class changes at this time. Study hard and do well in your classes. Take advantage of after school tutoring. (Devries) CAMPUS NEWS – Campus News is back! Please turn your classroom televisions to Channel 12 at 8:43am on Friday for this week’s program. (Fris) CENSUS 2010 JOBS! – If you are 18 years old, or close to being 18, come by the Title 1 Office to get more info. You could earn $12-18/hour. (Navarro) STUDENT BODY B-TRACK PETITION – B-track students interested in running for a Leadership position this Fall semester can pick up a petition form at 7am in Bungalow G or Mrs. Lee-Ramirez’s Office. Petition forms are due February 18 at 12:53pm. (Reynosa) START A HEALTHY NEW YEAR AT THE JMHS HEALTH CENTER – Come to the JMHS Health Center on the Teacher’s Parking Lot for physicals, sports physicals, check-ups, meet with a registered dietician, counseling, immunizations and confidential family planning services. All services are free for JMHS students only. We are open Monday through Friday. Call (323) 665-1129 or stop by during lunch or nutrition for questions. (Lam) CLUBS * B-TRACK MENTORS – Binder checks for your closing lessons are here! Come in between February 10-12 to be able to participate on Mentor Day.
